Youth and Family Advocate

The Excellence and Advancement Foundation’s (EAF) is dedicated to disrupting the relationship between race, schooling, and incarceration. We are working to break the school-to-prison pipeline. We advocate and provide both prevention and intervention services to support youth and families that are currently or may be at risk of becoming involved in the school discipline and/or criminal legal systems, and we provide systemic interventions for schools, agencies, and organizations.

Position:

We have a new Restorative Justice partnership with the Travis County District Attorney’s Office and want to hire immediately. The Youth and Family Advocates will be responsible for providing culturally responsive, restorative, and transformative services. The Advocate will engage with intervention work with youth and families. The Youth and Family advocate will also work with the team to plan and facilitate prevention programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice, experience with services for youth and families, experience with assessing needs; developing, monitoring, and evaluating action plans and progress; facilitating interdisciplinary approaches and employing strength-based practices; collaborate with families, courts, partner organizations, and school administrators.

Qualifications:
Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, education or related field
  • Previous work experience in case management and working directly within the area of criminal justice, education, substance use disorder, or other social service organizations
  • Excellent knowledge of case management principles and care management
  • Ability to assess diverse family situations without judgment
  • Previous experience with psychological aspects of care
  • Proven ability to work across organizations to accomplish a common goal
  • Effective written and oral communication skills, including public speaking
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously
  • Demonstrated empathy for children
  • Ability to resolve conflict

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field
  • Current license, certification, or registration
  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Familiarity with the workings of the justice system
  • Experience working with school administration
